I wrote this Japanese grammar textbook for those who have an interest in learning the Japanese language, but may have found it a tad bit overwhelming at first. Being a student of the language myself, this book was written from the perspective of someone who had to personally struggle with the new linguistical concepts and ideas, allowing me to make the learning process much more streamlined for the native English speaking student.

When I first told people that I wanted to write a Japanese grammar textbook, the most common response was, "But you're not even Japanese. You're just some guy who learned Japanese..." And my response to them was always "That's right! I am just some guy. But so what?" The reality is that being a non-native Japanese speaker gives me a better understanding of the difficulties a native English speaker might face and how to better explain the grammatical details of the language more clearly and succinctly than a non-native English speaking person could.
I, too, was once a beginner of the Japanese language and have definitely dealt with the frustrations it can bring. That's why I have done my best to provide what I feel are essential beginner/intermediate level grammar structures with simple, easy to understand explanations that will make the rest of your Japanese studying career much less stressful.
As a child I always dreamed of being able to play my favorite games in Japanese, or watch and understand my favorite anime. Through a lot of hard work and effort I was finally able to make my dream a reality, and I sincerely hope that I will be able to impart on to you what I picked up along my Japanese learning adventure to help you accomplish your dreams as well.

Great for beginners for very cheap price

I've tried the holy tae Kim guide but I found its layout and order to not fit my style. This on the other hand is amazing and I could grasp everything right away. Make sure to write down key things from the book, it helps for remembering and for easy reference. I have a sheet dedicated to verb conjugation and sheets dedicated to more detailed chapter summaries than offered. Try out the sample (its 10% of the book which should be enough to decide if it fits your style or not), that's why I did and I loved it and bought it. Thanks for the great grammar book Jeremy.

An Excellent Book

This is really a very good introduction to Japanese grammar, and better than most. The book introduces a grammar point along with a brief explanation. That is pretty typical. The book then includes several example sentences, more than is typical for this sort of book, and every example sentence is written in kana, then with kanji (including furigana), then romaji, then in English. You're bound to find a version that works for you. The book then includes some practice exercises so you can try your hand at using the grammar point that you just learned, something that a lot of books of this type don't have. I originally gave it four stars because, though most of the grammar explanations are good, I felt that one rather complex but really essential point (the difference between wa and ga) really needed more explanation than it got, but I am a lot farther into the book now, and it has become my go-to grammar book, so I felt that it really deserved five stars.

Great book! Only thing I would have liked would be less use of romaji, especially in later chapters.
