We need Frank Black, and we need him now

Well, I'm sure if you're reading this you know about the "Back to Frank Black campaign", so I'm saving any kind of intro explaining who they are and what they do. In essence, the guys have been doing a great job, and I think I'm right if I say this very book is a milestone for them, after these past years of hard working.

Millennium was a unique series, with unique characters, and this is a unique book; because this is a real book, forget about any conventional official guide or episode guide or whatever, this is not, this is 510 pages full of Millennium, interviews, chats, essays, comments and more. Despite the fact it was made by fans (putting their hearts on the project, clearly) "Back to Frank Black" is great stuff, a wery well written book, a smart book, enjoyable. It's a product very much in synchrony with the series they are talking about.

Everyone involved with the show is here, all of them, since Chris Carter and Lance Henriksen to Frank Spotnitz, Mark Snow, Glen Morgan and James Wong(really interesting interviews), Klea Scott, Kristen Cloke, Erin Maher and Kay Reindl, Sarah-Jane Redmond, Michael R. Perry, Brittany Tiplady, Thomas J. Wright, Megan Gallagher and Chip Johannessen. There's a lot to read and they had a lot to say. One thing I really like is that many comments are very honest, they share their memories 13 years later in a very truthful way, I wasn't expecting anything less, but that's pretty cool.
We are going, as readers, into all the stages of the show, since the whole serial killer thing from the first season, passing through the wonderful "98% less serial killers" vision of the second season, to the third and final season; all the changes in between are covered, all the persons involved are interviewed, and the essays explore the different situations, episodes, characters and the music. Plus, the book has a great artwork (by Matthew Ingles) and nice internal illustrations by James Mclean. As I said before, this is great stuff.

So, if you were a fan back then, or you're a fan now, and you are interesting in knowing many things and points of view about the series, since the beginnig to the end and afterwards, this is your book, buy it, it's worth it.
As a fan myself since the pilot first aired, I need a return of Frank Black, in fact I believe many people need it. Both Millennium as a series and Frank Black as a character were certainly ahead of its time back in the 90's. So now, in a different world, it's time for a comeback. Hope this book and the campaign helps, I really wish so. Time will tell, but the moment is right.

If you care about "Millennium"...

"Millennium" has never received the serious attention it deserved...
until now. This is an extraordinary volume for people who care about
Popular Culture in general, and this series in particular. Besides,
thanks to those who created the book...every dollar will go to Lance
Henriksen's favorite charity, "Children of the Night." Please support
this important work.

This is Who We Are

I purchased the kindle version recently and have to say I was very excited to read this book. I watched the show religiously during its originally airing and then again when it was rebroadcast on FX. During its initial run, I also enjoyed the Millennial Abyss website run by one of the editors Brain A. Dixon and was, like many, saddened by the premature cancellation of the show. To this day I have fond memories of the series that thankfully I get to relive through my DVD collection!
The book itself is amazing in so many ways. Unlike a traditional "companion" novel, BTFB gives a behind the scenes glance through personal accounts from both cast and crew as well as some in depth psychological breakdowns of the various season themes, characters, and series as a whole. Each chapter is a fun read and literally leaves no stone unturned. If I had one criticism, which is more of a personal one in the end, is that it would have been nice to see any behind the scenes stills/images that may or not may exist. Besides this, BTFB is well written and intriguing through and through and provides true Millennium fans with something that has been missing for so many years.
Driven towards a campaign that looks to bring back Frank Black in movie form, the book shows how much love and commitment cast and crew gave to this beloved series. Without a doubt, anyone who was/is a fan will enjoy this book and agree that the story of Frank Black needs to be brought back one last time.

About the Author
S. Christian Albright received his B.S. degree in mathematics from Stanford in 1968 and his Ph.D. in operations research from Stanford in 1972. Since then, he has been teaching in the Operations and Decision Technologies Department in the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University. He has taught courses in management science, computer simulation, and statistics to all levels of business students: undergraduates, MBAs, and doctoral students. His current interest is in spreadsheet modeling, including development of VBA applications in Excel. Dr. Albright has published more than 20 articles in leading operations research journals in the area of applied probability. He has also published a number of successful textbooks, including DATA ANALYSIS AND DECISION MAKING, DATA ANALYSIS FOR MANAGERS, and SPREADSHEET MODELING AND APPLICATIONS.

Wayne L. Winston is Professor Emeritus of Decision Sciences at the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University and is now a Professor of Decision and Information Sciences at the Bauer College at the University of Houston. He has won more than 45 teaching awards, including the school-wide MBA award six times. His current interest is in showing how spreadsheet models can be used to solve business problems in all disciplines, particularly in finance, sports, and marketing. In addition to publishing more than 20 articles in leading journals, Dr. Winston has written such successful textbooks as OPERATIONS RESEARCH: APPLICATIONS AND ALGORITHMS, MATHEMATICAL PROGRAMMING: APPLICATIONS AND ALGORITHMS, SIMULATION MODELING WITH @RISK, DATA ANALYSIS FOR MANAGERS, SPREADSHEET MODELING AND APPLICATIONS, MATHLETICS, DATA ANALYSIS AND BUSINESS MODELING WITH EXCEL 2013, MARKETING ANALYTICS, and FINANCIAL MODELS USING SIMULATION AND OPTIMIZATION. He received his B.S. degree in mathematics from MIT and his Ph.D. in operations research from Yale.

Excellent book but be careful before buying !!

This book is a excellent book in that it provides a unified approach to business-related problems by integrating methods and applications that have been traditionally taught in separate courses, specifically statistics and management science. In addition, the book emphasizes realistic business examples and the processes managers actually use to analyze business problems.
But before buying the book, make a sure that it has a access to a website which has samples used in the book. Without the samples in the website, the value of this book is none.

Using it to "self-teach" and transition from Web Analyst to Business Analyst (Business Analytics Analyst)

So far, this book is invaluable. I was an English major; then, ended up in analytics, so there are quite of few information gaps, even though I have Master's in Information Systems Management. When I got a new position that was decidedly more business intelligence/analytics focused than my previous position in Web Analytics at IBM (5+ years) and since I don't have a business education, I needed to quickly get up to speed on the fundamentals of BA. I'm so glad I rented this book. I also love that Amazon allows you to put your rental monies toward the purchase of the book, if you so choose. I'm on my second rental period and plan on buying the book. I'm using this to self-teach, if you will, since I don't have the time, money or motivation to return back to school. With this book, I'm off to a great start and feeling more confident about my skills and new position.

I would have loved to keep it but I just rented it.

I just rented this book for about $50 and I had to return it after the semester ended. However, of all my MBA book that I have bought and breadths one I would have loved to keep. Absolutely superb instructions on statistical analysis. Step by step instructions to maximize excel. Just make sure you have it loaded on a windows based system because the mac version for excel is incomplete. Let me write a review on microsoft products...oh that would be a book.

Legitimate book, great for self study.

This book is ultimately for creating a strong foundation for calculus. "Basic" mathematics can be used lightly, as it's still relatively challenging, but by no means difficult. You'll spend time trying to understand proofs (by the way, he doest an excellent job of incoorporating proofs into the learning process, which is extremely necessary if you want to fully understand math) and figuring out some of the more challenging exercise problems, but the book is by no means painful to go through.

I'll be a junior in high school next year, and was recommended studying this book by a math professor in Belgium (yes, really). The biggest thing to know about math, at least in the earlier levels, is that it is cumulative. You will be absolutely and forever f'ed if you go into Calculus with hardly any knowledge of algebra. That's why, if you find yourself struggling in math, or need to strengthen your foundations, you need to go throuh this book.

It's excellent for self studying, which is what I'm currently doing this summer. When you take this book on at your own pace, and can spend more time on each section as required, and breeze through other sections that you have a firm grasp on, you'll find yourself enjoying the book. Serge Lang was an excellent mathematician (was... only because he is dead) and his books are well written and devoted to helping you understand the material.

Remember though, that just because the book claims to be covering basic mathematics, that you won't be challenged. It can be tough, and especially when you're at the high school level, the mathematics won't seem like they're "basic", but more like, "hey, I just learned that last year/this year/whenever." It's ultimately a wonderful book if you're looking to strengthen the foundation of your mathematic ability, and Lang also includes a brief section after the first chapter about how you should logically examine math, which is invaluable.

Math, to a lot of people, is pointless and not fun. It's that way because of botched U.S. public education, a lack of good/inspiring math teachers, and partly due to a lack of motivation in students. Pick up this book, maybe make a schedule for it, and just sit down and DO math. After a while, you'll start to see the beauty of something that is so logical and amazing, something that has been the collective work of various genius human minds, collaborating to further mathematics, that you'll pick up a passion for math. Math is almost like a language. You can choose to go through life in ignorance, sitting by and listening to others communicate with eachother, looking on in awe, wondering what beautiful and inspiring things they could be saying, or you can sit down, get to work, and be right there with them, able to communicate in a logical and correct language that governs the universe.

Excellent overview

Serge Lang's Basic Mathematics is an excellent overview of algebra and geometry. If you are in high school needing a tutorial primer, or an adult continuing their education after some years, this book will provide through its clarity, examples, and exercises (selected answers are in the back of the book)the refresher course you need for more advanced mathematics, such as calculus and linear algebra.

Preparation for college mathematics from a mathematician's standpoint.

Serge Lang's text presents the topics that he feels students should understand before commencing their study of college mathematics. As such, working through this text is a good way for you to supplement what you learned in high school with material that will aid you in studying mathematics in college. Therefore, I particularly recommend it for prospective mathematics majors.

The material in the text is well motivated and clearly presented. While Lang explains how to perform routine calculations, he focuses on the underlying structure of the mathematics. The material is developed logically and results are proved throughout the text. However, the presentation of the material is marred by numerous errors, most, but not all, of which are typographical.

The problems range from routine calculations to proofs. Many of the problems are challenging and some require considerable ingenuity to solve. Answers to some of the exercises are presented in the back of the text. I should warn you that if you are used to artificial textbook problems in which the correct solution is a "nice" number, you will find that is not the case here. Also, it is useful to read through the problem sets before you begin solving them so that you can do related problems at the same time.

The first section of the book covers algebra. Properties of the integers, rational numbers, and real numbers are examined and compared. There is also more routine material on linear equations, systems of linear equations, powers and roots, inequalities, and quadratic equations.

A brief discussion of logic precedes a section on geometry. Basic assumptions about distance, angles, and right triangles are used as a starting point rather than Euclid's postulates. This leads to a discussion of isometries, including reflections, translations, and rotations. Area is discussed in terms of dilations. The treatment here is different from that in the high school text Geometry which Lang wrote with Gene Murrow. I found the material on isometries quite interesting. Be aware that the notation and some of the terminology in this section is not standard.

The third section of the book covers coordinate geometry. Distance is interpreted in terms of coordinates. This leads to a discussion of circles. Transformations are reinterpreted using coordinates. Segments, rays, and lines are presented using parametric equations. A chapter on trigonometry covers standard topics, but also includes a section on rotations. The section concludes with a chapter on conic sections. Of particular interest is a proof that all Pythagorean triples can be generated from points on the unit circle with rational coordinates.

The final section of miscellaneous topics addresses functions, more generalized mappings, complex numbers, proofs by mathematical induction, summations, geometric series, and determinants. The text concludes by demonstrating how determinants can be used to solve systems of linear equations.

The eminent mathematicians I. M. Gelfand and Kunihiko Kodaira have also contributed to books intended for high school students. Those of you planning to study mathematics in college would benefit from working through their texts as well.

A Cover-Up like you've Never Seen Before

Finally there's a book about the failure of journalists to actually be journalists and write the truth about autism. We have been reading lies about the autism epidemic for two decades now. Anne Dachel's book digs into the "dirty lies" about this huge epidemic that's destroying the lives of a generation of children, boys in particular. You will read about dozens of writers and television personalities who have kept this deception going consistently as a fine-tuned automobile. They are completely influenced by government health agencies and doctors who are in turn influenced by big drug companies to hold the truth about autism under water until drowning is inevitable. They want you to believe that autism isn't so bad, that the 1 in 68 children now diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder is simply due to better diagnosing, and most importantly that
America's present vaccine schedule is safe as a security system on your home.

At the same time, these false writers and reporters will tell you that these people who worry about vaccine safety are crazy as rabid dogs and deserve no attention, even though they are some of the most highly educated people in the country. Well, Ms. Dachel, with her fine writing skills and experience with autism advocacy for over a decade, will lay the truth out for you with live journalistic integrity like you've never seen before. This book is a must for anyone who has questions about the autism epidemic, the honesty of today's journalism, and why the media is covering it all up in a blanket of secrecy.

The Big Autism Lie

I wrote the Foreword for this book, so consider that a bias. Be-that-as-it-may, bias is not control, and controlled is what the major media is, and even beyond control they accept money to run stories, do interviews and conversely censor anything their handlers don't want out there. The so-called alternative media is now the only media where there is half a hope of finding out the truth.

Most people don't realize the information they are fed from the controlled media is bought and paid for, but it is and it is time to wake up and smell the mind-control unless you enjoy getting gaslighted

For example, if the media is told not to report on new Ebola cases, suddenly all the reporting stops - it is that easy, and it has been that way for years. If the media is told to stop reporting about Fukishima...poof...it is gone as if it never happened.

Why would autism be any different. You would think getting to the bottom of the autism story would be a good career move for a journalist. 1 in 10,000 going to 1 in 50 in just a few years... you would think inquiring minds might want to know.

Oh yeah, I forgot... all these children with autism were always here, we just called them something else. And as they were always here we should be able to see lots of autistic adults, but where are they?.... oh, I see one now.... there he is - Jerry Seinfeld.

Excellent Expose of How the Media Is Guilty in Continuing and Exacerbating the Autism Epidemic

Wow...to have the media's astounding, decade-and-a-half-long cover-up of the raging Autism Epidemic (that's erring on the side of underestimating it) documented in exhaustive detail is nothing short of a tremendous accomplishment by excellent writer, Anne Dachel.

Anne Dachel has helped to ensure that there will always be a meticulously-detailed, nationwide account of how the media aided and abetted the heinous crimes against humanity committed by the evil and corrupt pharmaceutical-governmental-medical triumvirate that have resulted in harming, disabling, making chronically ill, and sometimes killing, 2 1/2 decades-worth (and counting) of children. Blood is on the media's hands just as surely as it is on the hands of fraudulent vaccine researchers, corrupt government regulators, moral-less pharmaceutical company executives, arrogant and willfully-ignorant doctors and nurses who have completely abandoned their oaths to "First, do no harm," and corrupt elected officials who have chosen to be unethically beholden to the Big Pharma companies who helped get them elected with the express purpose of doing their bidding.

As a parent of vaccine-injured children (the most serious of whom is part of the initial wave of the Autism Epidemic, at age almost 21), I am extremely grateful for Anne's tireless, dogged pursuit and documentation of how the media, which is supposed to benefit the public by reporting the truth, has done anything and everything but report the truth when it comes to the raging Autism Epidemic and its more-than-obvious link to the sacred cow of medicine, vaccines.

Anne's book is a must-read for everybody, and it serves as a warning that the mainstream media cannot be trusted to report anything with accuracy or ethics. They have been bought and paid for, and their reporting exposes by whom.

About the Author
Dee Unglaub Silverthorn studied biology as an undergraduate at Tulane University and received a Ph.D. in marine science from the University of South Carolina. Her research interest is epithelial transport, and recent work in her laboratory has focused on transport properties of the chick allantoic membrane. She began her teaching career in the Physiology Department at the Medical University of South Carolina but over the years has taught a wide range of students, from medical and college students to those still preparing for higher education. At the University of Texas-Austin she teaches physiology in both lecture and laboratory settings, and instructs graduate students on developing teaching skills in the life sciences. She has received numerous teaching awards and honors, including the 2009 Outstanding Undergraduate Science Teacher Award from the Society for College Science Teachers, the American Physiological Society’s Claude Bernard Distinguished Lecturer and Arthur C. Guyton Physiology Educator of the Year, UT System Regents’ Outstanding Teaching Award, and multiple awards from UT-Austin, including the Burnt Orange Apple Award. The first edition of her textbook won the 1998 Robert W. Hamilton Author Award for best textbook published in 1997—98 by a University of Texas faculty member. Dee recently completed six years as editor-in-chief of Advances in Physiology Education and she works with members of the International Union of Physiological Sciences to improve physiology education in developing countries. She is the incoming president (2012-13) of the Human Anatomy and Physiology Society, and an active member of the American Physiological Society, the Society for Comparative and Integrative Biology, the Association for Biology Laboratory Education, and the Society for College Science Teachers. Her free time is spent creating multimedia fiber art and enjoying the Texas hill country with her husband, Andy, and their dogs.

About the Illustrators
Dr. William C. Ober received his undergraduate degree from Washington and Lee University and his M.D. from the University of Virginia. While in medical school, he also studied in the Department of Art as Applied to Medicine at Johns Hopkins University. After graduation, Dr. Ober completed a residency in Family Practice and later was on the faculty at the University of Virginia in the Department of Family Medicine. He is currently an Affiliate Professor of Biology at Washington and Lee University and is part of the Core Faculty at Shoals Marine Laboratory, where he teaches Biological Illustration every summer.

Claire W. Garrison, R.N., B.A., practiced pediatric and obstetric nursing before turning to medical illustration as a full-time career. She returned to school at Mary Baldwin College where she received her degree with distinction in studio art. Following a five-year apprenticeship, she has worked as Dr. Ober’s partner in Medical & Scientific Illustration since 1986. She is on the Core Faculty at Shoals Marine Laboratory and co-teaches the Biological Illustration course.

You don't need 6th edition

I got this instead of the 6th edition. It served me just fine. The changes between the editions are very minimal, mostly just different colors in the diagrams.

One of the best physiological textbooks worldwide

It is one of the best physiological textbooks worldwide. This textbook supports integrative system view of the complex function of the human organism.
This textbook is suitable not only for medical education, but also for the teaching of bioengineering.
Really, this book proved useful in teaching my students at the Czech Technical University, all the necessary chemical, anatomical, histological assumptions are well and clearly explained.

Missing Information

I ordered this book as a rental, because it was the best deal I could find. It was supposed to have Mastering A & P access with it, but it didn't. There was no Mastering A & P access code anywhere. I had to go ahead and purchase it at the last minute, because I was out of time. My class had already started, and I needed the textbook and the MAP. I haven't had time to try to find a phone number or an email anywhere to contact you guys about it. I had to get the Mastering A&P on my own, which was another $66. I ordered this book from you, so that I wouldn't have to pay that extra $66. For as much as I paid for the rented textbook from you, and the MAP's $66, I could have had the set from the bookstore where I go, for the same amount of money, plus I could have had it immediately, plus I could have owned the book. Please let me know who to contact about this. Thanks. Marlene Hancock

About the Author
Andy Garlick is Managing Director of the independent consultancy, The Risk Agenda (www.riskagenda.com). Andy has twenty five years' experience in risk. This started with work on nuclear risk assessment in the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority. Since then he has held senior positions involving the development of a number of risk consulting businesses. He has worked with clients in the nuclear, transport, oil and gas, chemical and government sectors. His mission during this time has been to make risk methods more accessible and more business-focused. He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Risk Management and is currently acting as secretary of their Special Interest group on PFI/PPP.

When you have limited bookshelf space

The eighth edition of The Manager's Bookshelf provides an overview of the most important management and leadership models in use today. The book consists of excerpts and articles that summarize the best and original thinking on the subject. For example, Maslow's hierarchy is classic; the excerpt from the original work faithfully presents the model and many of its facets. Peter Senge seems to have written the section about the Fifth Discipline, which is an effective summary of system thinking leading to The Dance of Change (one of Senge's later works).

The book is not a quick-self-help book. The management and leadership models are meant for meditation. The editors provided a great resource to ponder the meanings, while avoiding making the book ponderous.

If you have the resources, buy the original works and read them. If you need a quick reference that gives the best picture of the original material and the ability to compare some complementary ideas side by side, this is am excellent book to work with.
