About the Author

Woon-Chien Teng is a PhD candidate in the Department of Pharmacy, National University of Singapore (NUS). She graduated with a BSc (Pharmacy) (Honors) from NUS. Teng is also a registered pharmacist with the Singapore Pharmacy Council. She has previously worked as a pharmacist at Changi General Hospital, Singapore and as a preregistration pharmacist at Kandang Kerbau Women’s and Children’s Hospital, Singapore.

Ho Han Kiat is an Associate Professor at the Department of Pharmacy, National University of Singapore (NUS). He received his BSc (Pharmacy) with first class honors from NUS in 2000. Subsequently, he obtained his PhD in medicinal chemistry from the University of Washington in 2005, investigating the molecular mechanisms of specific drug-induced liver toxicity. After that, he returned to Singapore for a 3-year postdoctoral fellowship investigating the roles of tyrosine kinases for various malignancies. Presently, he directs a toxicology division within the Drug Development Unit at NUS. He has published more than 40 papers in internationally recognized journals and has won multiple university-level teaching excellence awards.

Rossarin Suwanarusk is a Research Scientist with the Malaria Immunobiology Group at the Singapore Immunology Network (SIgN), A*STAR. She graduated with a PhD from Mahidol University (Medical Technology), Thailand, in 2003. Suwanarusk is well known for her research on the pathobiology and drug-resistance markers of Plasmodium vivax. She has published more than 30 articles in international peer-reviewed journals, including Nature, Science, Blood, and Journal of Infectious Diseases.

Hwee-Ling Koh is an Associate Professor at the Department of Pharmacy, National University of Singapore (NUS). She graduated with a PhD from the University of Cambridge (United Kingdom), as well as with a BSc (Pharmacy) (Honors) and MSc (Pharmacy) from NUS. She is a registered pharmacist with the Singapore Pharmacy Council. She has been teaching and carrying out research on traditional Chinese medicine and medicinal plants at NUS for more than 15 years. Giving your all can squash your dreams.

I dated a great guy for over a year and suddenly he dropped off the face of the earth. Granted, it was a long distance relationship but we traveled a lot together and to me it was perfect. I had my own time yet always had something to look forward to by making the next plan to see each other. I made myself so available and able to go at any time, but by doing so put my own interests on hold and became less interesting and no longer a challenge. My heart was broken and I couldn't understand what had happened so of course I questioned and tried to reason that we were so good together. We didn't fight, we had lots af fun, did interesting things together, and sex was great. On and on and on.... I really saw myself in this book and it has helped me see that although I am a very independent and capable woman that I self sabatoged my relationship by giving up part of myself. This is a must read for woman who give too much!

Great information. Love Gregg's no nonsense, say it like it is style!. I am an "older" gal, author, artist, athlete....younger in looks, attitude and energy than most of the guys in my age group. I grew up in the 50's (think Mad Men wives/mothers-ugh!) so had to be "nice and good" which has been a curse my whole dating life. Well, it is never too late to learn. Thanks Gregg. I read this one and immediately bought all the rest!

A huge disappointment, is very outdated material.

I just took part II today! Rudman's book is not "new" in any sense. I wouldn't recommend this text to anyone, unless you plan to travel back to 1986 to take the test!

good for last minute review

If you are looking for a book to learn the material covered on part two, this is not the book. But if you are willing to memorize every exam in this book the week before you take it, this book will prove to be very helpful. The questions were very similar and some were exactly word for word (on the computer test version, I dont know about the paper test version). my suggestion would be to study the way you normally would and the week before memorize every test in this book especially the pharm, oral surgey, oral medicine section. keep in my that you want to make sure you have the latest ADA guidlines on premedication to make sure the info is updated. The book may not get you the higest possible score but it may be the diffrence between passing and failing.Basically if you are caught in a jam and did not prepare and only have a week before the test this is the book.

But the old information actually lays a good foundation for the principles of the new information. This book does help make the difference between passing and failing. It really helps with learning to eliminate the distractors even if you have no idea what the question is asking for or what the answer choices are.

Helpful when tutoring Adult Basic Education Students in Math

This text is one of several mathematics texts available at Milwaukee Achiever Literacy Services, where I am a volunteer tutor. Achieving TABE Success in Mathematics is the text that my students and I use regularly. Our reasons are: 1. A single concept is presented on most pages. At the top of the page there is a short explanation that is usually clear enough for the students to start doing exercises on their own. Then they ask questions about specific exercises, and I listen to their thinking and answer their questions. ( We often cannot do this when we use other texts. Students end up spending more time listening and less time doing exercises.) 2. Inexpensive secondhand copies of the Achieving TABE Success books are available through various websites, including the Amazon website. These can be purchased so that students can use them at home. 3. Many students are required to take the TABE test. The Achieving TABE Success in Mathematics Series is specifically designed to prepare students to pass the TABE test.

Achieving TABE Success in Mathematics TABE 9 & 10 Level D is one of four Achieving TABE Success in Mathematics texts (Levels E,M,D, A). All of these books are designed to help students succeed on the TABE math test. All contain some of the same content and explanations. More difficult topics such as dividing decimals,solving algebraic equations,negative numbers are included in the higher level books (A is the highest level book.D is the second highest.) The level D book is the one that I have used the most.

Another volunteer tutor commented on the original version of this review and recommended the Number Power books. I also recommend both series of Number Power books. One series (Number Power level E Introductory, Number Power level M Intermediate 1, Number Power level D Intermediate level 2, and Number Power level A Advanced) is very similar to the Achieving TABE Success in Mathematics series. (Many of the exercises are the same.) I think that I could use this series the same way that I now use the Achieving TABE Success series. The other Number Power series has nine volumes on different topics (Volume 1 is entitled Adding, Subtracting, Multiplying and Dividing, Volume 2 is entitled Fractions, Decimals, and Per Cents,etc.) I find supplemental exercises in this second, longer series.

I am currently using the Achieving TABE Success in Mathematics level M and level D books to help a student improve his score on the Accuplacer Arithmetic Exam. I have used the Achieving TABE Success series in Math to help prepare a student for the old GED exam. Now students at Milwaukee Achiever do not prepare to take the new GED exam. Instead they must take exams to show that they are prepared for a Wisconsin HSED class at Milwaukee Achiever. ( At this point, I think that I could use the Achieving TABE Success in Mathematics books to help students prepare for their Wisconsin HSED class. I think that tutors would have to use texts such as the SCORE BOOST series, the Kaplan GED 2015 Strategies, Practice, and Review Book, or the Common Core Mathematics, Basics to help students prepare for the new GED exam.)

Consider These Alternatives

At this time it is difficult to get reasonably-priced copies of this text. One alternative is Number Power Introductory Level E, which is also TABE-correlated and has the same helpful format. But the Number Power Introductory Level E text and this text share a drawback: They do not cover topics which the TABE and Acuplacer Arithmetic Exams cover: percents, most of fractions, multiplication and division of decimals. The best alternatives to this text are the intermediate, levels M and D texts from both the Achieving TABE Success in Math Series and the Number Power Series.

A great math book for tabe students

I am in a trade school working towards a new career...
I passed most of my required sections, but did bad in the math section.
This book is currently helping me, along with my teachers pamphlets...
I hope to pass my tabe test, math section within the next 3 months...
Contemporary has also a geometry book too, which I also ordered... but this book lays a great foundation for basic math..

Exploit This Gold Mine

The flyleaf gets this right: "an unexploited gold mine." Way back in what now seems almost prehistoric in advertising years (the late 60s), Stephen King was revealing the secrets to the way consumers think (and do not think) and illuminating the way advertising agencies and marketers should think (and should not think) about brands. How do we explain the degree to which his perspective and advice have gone unexploited?

This book, based on King's published writings and fine introductions by savvy marketing thinkers, removes all excuses for failing to develop marketing communications that connect consumers and brands. Among the articles included is one of his seminal essays, "What Is A Brand?" That means we no longer have to decipher his words truncated by a poorly scanned pdf that we downloaded (likely without permission) from a website googled on a tip from some King insider who managed to discover him when so many others did not. It's surprising and fortunate that the ideas he posited over 30 years are still utterly relevant and cogent in a business that's changed in unimagined ways in those ensuing decades. Yet so many agencies and advertisers have failed to learn from and apply his insights.

Gratefully the editors of this book make his work -- and that of other brilliant thinkers like Stanley Pollitt -- accessible and timely to anyone willing to dig in. You now have no excuse. Exploit this gold mine.

Brand Planning A Master Class

Stephen King practically invented Brand Planning.
This work collects the many papers that he published over twenty years work for JWT London. It is brought up to date by the editors who have asked current professionals to comment individually on them.
It is amzing how well they read today and the little difficulty that the commentators have in identifying the underlying and timeless truths for today. I consider it a must for any serious student of Advertising and Marketing. If only he was still around to update our thinking in the Internet Age!

King, a pioneer in account planning in the UK, spent his career teaching his colleagues, his clients and countless fans how brands work, how to approach brands and importantly how to sustain brands. The brilliance of this compilation of his work is the addition of contemporary commentaries by today's leading thinkers about advertising, marketing and brands. They make this book as relevant and timely as the latest blog on brands. A must-read for people starting out in the business, people building and selling brands, and people teaching marketing in business schools.

About the Author
Ariel Guttman has been involved with the study of astrology since 1974. �In 1980 she founded an astrological consulting firm, Astro Originals, through which astrological seminars, personal and business consulting, astrological teaching and lecturing are conducted. �For several years she has been involved with asteroid research, and by including those asteroids in her astrological work, has found a growing interest in this, "the feminine" aspects of astrology. �She has lectured for numerous astrological organizations and conferences both in the United States and in Europe. Kenneth Johnson holds a degree in Religious Studies from California State University Fullerton. His emphasis was in the study of mythology and this interest is reflected in his writing and his astrological practice. Kenneth discovered astrology while traveling in Europe during the summer of 1973. He studied in Amsterdam and London before returning to the United States and developing a practice which focuses on archetypal themes and personal mythologies. In addition to his astrological interests, Kenneth is also a musical theater librettist and a member of the Dramatists Guild. ~

An antidote for more shallow interpretations

This book is a perfect antidote to overly simplistic, "cookie-cutter", astrology books. This is because it delves into the deep mythological symbolism behind the planets and signs. It is an excellent reference for fleshing-out a written horoscope with more than the basics. This isn't a book that is going to teach you how to cast a horoscope, however, it will help you to interpret a horoscope in terms of the deep archetypical patterns and currents for which the stars and planets are merely visible markers.
Indeed, this book goes beyond providing mere historical details and trivia, it is a starting place for deep meditation on the underlieing meaning in a chart.

a thought provoking reference to our lives

This wonderful book marries mythology with astrology in a clear concise readable tapestry. I've had my copy for 2 yrs now and I still refer to it and learn from it. It manages to explain both mythology and astrology in one effortless read. I'm constantly recommending it and lending it out to others who usually end up searching out their own copies. It's a must for anyone who enjoys reading their daily horoscope. You'll learn more about yourself and others than you thought possible, and along the way you'll learn about the ancient myths and astrology. Buy it and enjoy

Mythic Astrology

This is an excellent book that ties in syncretically, astrology, the planets, the Gods and Goddesses for whom the planets are named and many of the myths relating to them and indiviual signs. In short, it is one of the few concise, deep accounts of archetypal astrology that I have read. The authors also pull a lot from depth psychology and the work of Carl Jung. It is an absolute MUST for any serious student of Astrology! You don't have to go out and buy a big book on Hellenic Mythology, just keep this and within it is all you need to know!

About the Editors:

Yunqian Ma received his PhD in electrical engineering from the University of Minnesota at twin cities in 2003. He then joined Honeywell International Inc., where he is currently senior principal research scientist in the advanced technology lab at Honeywell Aerospace. He holds 12 U.S. patents and 38 patent applications. He has authored 50 publications, including 3 books. His research interest includes inertial navigation, integrated navigation, surveillance, signal and image processing, pattern recognition and computer vision, machine learning and neural networks. His research has been supported by internal funds and external contracts, such as AFRL, DARPA, HSARPA, and FAA. Dr. Ma received the International Neural Network Society (INNS) Young Investigator Award for outstanding contributions in the application of neural networks in 2006. He is currently associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks, on the editorial board of the pattern recognition letters journal, and has served on the program committee of several international conferences. He also served on the panel of the National Science Foundation in the division of information and intelligent system and is a senior member of IEEE. Dr. Ma is included in Marquis Who is Who Engineering and Science.

Yun Fu received his B.Eng. in information engineering and M.Eng. in pattern recognition and intelligence systems, both from Xian Jiaotong University, China. His M.S. in statistics, and Ph.D. in electrical and computer engineering, were both earned at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He joined BBN Technologies, Cambridge, MA, as a Scientist in 2008 and was a part-time lecturer with the Department of Computer Science, Tufts University, Medford, MA, in 2009. Since 2010, he has been an assistant professor with the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, SUNY at Buffalo. His current research interests include applied machine learning, human-centered computing, pattern recognition, intelligent vision system, and social media analysis. Dr. Fu is the recipient of the 2002 Rockwell Automation Master of Science Award, Edison Cups of the 2002 GE Fund Edison Cup Technology Innovation Competition, the 2003 Hewlett-Packard Silver Medal and Science Scholarship, the 2007 Chinese Government Award for Outstanding Self-Financed Students Abroad, the 2007 DoCoMo USA Labs Innovative Paper Award (IEEE International Conference on Image Processing 2007 Best Paper Award), the 2007-2008 Beckman Graduate Fellowship, the 2008 M. E. Van Valkenburg Graduate Research Award, the ITESOFT Best Paper Award of 2010 IAPR International Conferences on the Frontiers of Handwriting Recognition (ICFHR), and the 2010 Google Faculty Research Award. He is a lifetime member of Institute of Mathematical Statistics (IMS), senior member of IEEE, member of ACM and SPIE.
