Not a good introduction to anything. A very long list of what is considered to be Modernist art, but very little discussion as to why. No useful elaboration on what modernism in itself is or what holds all this work together. Nor am I particularly convinced that the graphic portion of this book adds anything. Other volumes of this series are better.

About the Author
Ann Charters received her B.A. at Berkeley and her Ph.D. at Columbia. She first met Kerouac at a poetry reading in Berkeley in 1956, and compiled a comprehensive bibliography of his work in 1967. A professor of English at the University of Connecticut, she is also the editor of Selected Letters of Jack Kerouac and the Portable Kerouac Reader, and the author of Beats and Company: Portrait of a Literary Generation.�Samuel Charters has taught creative writing and published widely in a variety of genres, including eleven books of poetry, four novels, a book of criticism on contemporary American poetry, a biography (coauthored with Ann Charters) of the poet Vladimir Mayakovsky, and translations of the poetry of Tomas Transtromer and Edith Sodergran. An ethnomusicologist, he produces blues and jazz recordings and has published many books about music, among them a history of New Orleans jazz and a study of bluesman Robert Johnson.

I bought this book for my ENG102 class. This book was used almost every class during class and for homework. It is full of short stories and poems. It has a lot of good stories and was a necessity for the class. I bought the book new and it came in perfect condition. I would definitely recommend buying this book if it is required for the course.

I am taking a graduate level physiology class and this book made it so much easier. The paragraphs are clear with great illustrations. I would recommend this to any college student or someone who is interested in this field.

Popular Animal Phys book well worth the price

I bought this edition in looseleaf form for my upper level Animal Phys course. The prof uses the figures straight from the book, so if I don't understand the diagram in class, I can always go back to the text. I use the book as a pre-class read and post-class study guide (along with class notes). The text is easy to read and the diagrams are colorful with clear explanations. I like the looseleaf edition because I can put the chapters I next for each exam into a binder along with my notes, then add / delete chapters & notes as I move forward in the course. In other words, the looseleaf edition saves my aching back from yet another heavy book! A wholly-digital ebook would be even better for me, but I can pass this text along to a relative who will be taking this course in the next year.

Full of useful information and chocked full of links to sites about feeders and books. Enjoyed looking through all the sites listed. You should like this as a guide to have on hand about how to attract certain species and how not to attract those you don't want. A few pictures but not for identifying species. Need a different book for that.

As good as I hoped it would be

One of the best, if not The best, Drupal developer's book I've read.

Each time a new version of Drupal comes out I read a book or two about the next version before using it on a production site. It has been a good way for me to know what to expect before blindly building a site for a client, or fumbling around learning through trial and error. I can tell that the Drupal 8 Development Cookbook is going to be a resource on my desk for many years, because it covers Exactly what I wanted to know about Drupal 8, and many topics I hadn't considered.

Here are some things I currently custom develop all the time in D7 that this book has prepared me for with D8

* Forms: new and altering
* Blocks
* Routing
* Permissions
* Field formatters
* Configuration management
* Themes

And here are D8 specific topics I consider a massive bonus in this book:

* Drupal & OOP
* Plugin system

Must keep in your hand if you want to learn about Drupal 8

This is a really, really good book for a beginner to an intermediate, stretching to an advanced user. The book covers a broad topic such as how to use, programing, and the other Drupal stuffs (see the TOC). I am a Drupal developer who understands Drupal 7 and now learning a basic programming manner in Drupal 8. I feel this is something like a great Drupal 8 textbook.

Note: First I purchased the "paper" book then Amazon offer for Kindle for a few dollars. Of course I also purchased Kindle version.

I haven't gotten much use out of it. It seems to be geared toward power users and developers who are new to Drupal. If you have a lot of experience with Drupal 7 and are lookin for something that focuses on differences between, say, writing a module for D7 vs D8, this won't be of much help. I've gone to it a few times looking for info about something that changed between D7 and D8, and there was no answer to be found in this book.

About the Author
Kate Danley, an award-winning actress, playwright, and author, is a member of the Acme Comedy Improv and sketch troupes in Los Angeles. Her plays have been produced in New York, Los Angeles, and the Washington, DC/Baltimore area. Danley s screenplay Fairy Blood won first place in the Breckenridge Festival of Film screenwriting competition in the action/adventure category. Her debut novel, The Woodcutter, was honored with the Garcia Award for the best fiction book of the year, was the first place fantasy book in the Reader Views Literary Awards, and the winner of the sci-fi/fantasy category of the Next Generation Indie Book Awards. Kate currently lives in Burbank, California, and works by day as office manager for education and exhibits at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles.

Fast Paced

This is the 2nd book in Kate Danley's Twilight Shifters series. The Dark of Twilight should definitely be read in first. By reading the books out of order you will miss much of the complex world and charactor building. Also, for those of you unfamiliar with Ms. Danley's writing, there are a lot of hints dropped for charactors, history, etc. to be expanded upon in later books.
It's a fast paced drama and when you come of the end on this installment it is like you had to bring yourself to a sudden stop or tumble head-first of a cliff.

If you like action, adventure

The second book is far darker than the first. Not usually one for graphic or violent content, I could not put this one down. None of the violence is gratuitous and all serves to advance the story. You may not want to read it in the dark, at night, when you are alone.Maybe. Or your cat might just freak you out when she jumps up on you to cuddle. Not that I would know of such things. Just sayin' it could happen. Maybe.

There is a bit of romance but as with many of Kate Danley's works, it is not the main feature. This isn't just a romance cloaked in a thinly veiled plot. If you like action, adventure, strong female characters who are actually likeable, and stories which showcase the variety and depth of human emotion and behavior, you will love this book.

Survival is the most important thing to achieve in this story.

Continuing the saga of the Twilight adventure. Our heroine must find the strength and courage to return to the most horrible and deadly place that rapidly turns worse than anyone expected. The swamp has more deadly surprises in store for anyone who is stupid enough to enter. Unfortunately, Aein and Lars and Finn are tasked to return to the swamp to protect the berry bush. No good deeds ever go unpunished.
